Oil painting class
Above, the POA will sponsor an oil painting class led by Rita Forand on July 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Pool View Room at the Lodge. The Canyon Lake resident last taught painting classes for the POA in 2007. A Bob Ross-certified instructor, Rita will demonstrate how to paint in a step-by-step instruction class that promises students will discover the joy of painting and go home with a finished painting in just one three-hour session.
Fee for the class is $60, payable in advance at the Member Services desk. There is nothing for students to bring to the class; just come and paint, have fun and go home with a finished 16x20 oil painting. Rita will offer one class each month, teaching a different scene each time.

Family Movie Night
Taking advantage of warm evenings and a lovely setting overlooking the Lake, Family Movie Nights at Holiday Harbor are continuing twice a month on Fridays through September 10. The next Family Movie Night is July 9. Families are invited to bring their own blankets, chairs and snacks.

YMCA for preschoolers
YMCA preschoolers are enjoying water-play activities outside, as well as games, stories and crafts inside at Blue Bird Hall. The YMCA program is available to parents and grandparents of preschoolers who would like to spend time with their young children, encouraging their creativity through crafts and their social skills through games, music and playtime with other tots. Families can purchase a $20 punch card at the POA Member Services counter allowing each child 10 visits to the YMCA.
Led by Site Director Celia Sawyer, the YMCA meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Blue Bird Hall. For more information, call Celia at 275-6044.
Guitar lessons
A four-week Guitar Class will begin Monday, July 12, and be offered each Monday at 7 p.m. until August 2 in the Sunset Beach Room at the Lodge. The four-week session is just $50.
Learn to read chord diagrams, tablature, strumming techniques and easy songs during the four (approximately) one-hour classes. Sign up at Member Services. Bring a guitar, music stand and some picks. Supplies are available at Pete’s Music of Menifee and Temecula. All other materials will be provided free of charge. This class will be taught by Canyon Lake resident Pete Surowski, owner of Pete’s Music in Menifee, Temecula and Anaheim.

Dog training
Dog-training classes are held each Saturday at 9 a.m. at Eastport Park, led by Allison McDorman and Cindy Chaisson of Custom Canine Training. The cost is $85 for a five-week course. Canyon Lake Car Show
Registration forms are now available at the POA Members Services desk for the 5th annual Canyon Lake Car Show, to be held October 2 in the Lodge parking lot. The show is for pre-’73 vehicles only. All entries must be by property owners or sponsored by a property owner.
The $25 registration fee includes goodie bag and event T-shirt. The popular event will feature a DJ, breakfast burritos, barbecue lunch, no host bars and vendors. As in past shows, a live auction and drawing will benefit the Progeria Foundation.
Tennis program
Tennis Pro Baba Soysa is running an eight-week Summer Tennis Program for kids that began June 17 and will continue through August 5. Twenty-eight kids, ages 3 to 18, have signed up so far. Four classes are being held for the various age groups: two on Thursday mornings for the younger children and two on Saturday mornings for the teens.
While classes are near capacity, there is room for a few more kids. The cost is $12.50 per class for the remaining classes.
